s.o.s

frankly, the entire great singapore sale is a sham. most stores only offer up to twenty percent (on decent looking outfits) and more on heinous pieces that belong to the shred-der. speaking of which, i have one in my office...

today i was strolling about robinsons trying to get something for the office.. sure they had fantastic discounts but the outfits were THIS awful, you wonder why polyester was invented in the first place. then suddenly i chanced upon a pair of black capris -not unlike the very same ones that i am currently in- .. stroking the material, i felt h-o-p-e! but upon closer look, the capris were categorised under NEW ARRIVALS i.e. no discount..the outrage! the feeling of being deceived!

shame on the sale.

ANYWAY

i think rose mcgowan's gorgeous and she has the epitome of strawberries-and-creme skin.. her mum's french and her dad's irish- what a killer mix of genes!

second time.

i recently came into contact with someone whom i have not heard from in a while.

i know this hurts-
but i suddenly seem to know why i would prefer to keep some memories buried. or why i NEVER missed the loss of our friendship. i hope you have a good life ahead of you though.

on a lighter note: it's the weekend!
midnight maddness.

supper at chompchomp's!

after darrelle came to pick me up (thanks for the ride, babe!) we spent the next half-an-hour u-turning looking for joey's ulu-pandan hougang ave 8 block.. haha, i am so tempted to wrtie her whole address down.

eck, i had such good black carrot cake! funny thing is how i never used to like black carrot cake as a kid and as i grew up, i preferred white most of the time but this time round i ordered a black version and it was totally mind-blowing.. after that, i was not even the least bit hungry but i ordered popiah anyway, after crossing out other options like another plate of carrot cake, tau hway and porriage..-yeap, probably proves to anyone how indecisive i am-.. on hindsight, i should have ordered another black black carrot cake.. MmMm..

joey and darrelle both shared a stingray and satay.. i think i am really aging, just check out my food choices against darr and joey's, i look like some ah- pek who has lost majority of his teeth and can only savour soft foods.

eck, i almost forgot we had chee kwey too! not bad i must say, the pickled vegetables (aka chai po) did not feel like some mass-produced oil-drenched product and i think i could really eat the chai po on its own! haha

then darr pointed out to us that there might be this weight-watchers group sitting at the back of us as they all wore badges that bore indications of how much weight they lost.. then that silly joey started re-enacting what they were probably discussing about.. "oh maybe we should recruit those three (us) up front".. "hey we need new members.. did you bring your badges.. "

x.o.x

now i can add 'call-pranker' to my job scope. yup, i prank people for a living (this is what usually happens when you pay peanuts). i call up people, see if there is a ringing tone and put down before anyone manages to answer my call. of course, there are those whose reflexes defy norm as pick up the phone BEFORE there is any dial tone.. seriously! and these are not just ordinary people i have to call.. these people belong to airport affiliations like national poisons centers (there is one in every country, you know, even singapore.. DUH of course SINGAPORE!), environment agencies, civil aviation authority, customs and what-have-you.

and it gets really interesting when you near voice mails in different languages.. so far the more unusual ones have been italian and cambodian (cambodians speak cambodian right?)..

your nothingness.

this entry is dedicated to the apathetic, bored, disentranced, fed up, glutted, indifferent, jaded, mellow, unexcited, uninterested, and world-weary you.

risen from the dead- almost.

jimmy left for an island in indonesia today. i call it 'island' as i have no idea what it is called. it is not jakarta or medan (where his family are) and he went over not for fun or to take advantage of the cheap budget airflights but to check out palm oil fields. seriously. sigh i bet my sister misses him (even if it is just for a couple of days) since they are practically the couple-version fo chang&end. although he left at around 6am for the ferry, she fell asleep in his room this morning. sigh..

my grandmother woke my mum up with a phone call at 9am on a saturday morning.
no prizes for guessing her intentions.
eck. i think i really need to engage in her services afterall.

Monday, May 23

lady lark.

eck, what a beautiful weekend it has been!

kicked off today with brunch at les amis's lazy gourmet where i swear they have the best croissants! ok, like delifrance is great normally.. but lazy gourmet had such light fluffy cris-p ones, i swear either the croissant or i must have been voodoo-ed! so it was like an excerpt from jean paul gaultier's 'pain couture' as it was basically orange juice and carbscarbscarbs for me.. sigh to top it off, they had such a lovely ambience (think white overweight caucasian baby crying in his pram till daddy left him on the floor to play).. you feel the world can do you no wrong while having breakfast.. definately must return!

then we basically made our rounds around town, in anticipation of the great singapore sale (check out the kiasu factor.. ) and i think i pulled a muscle while trying to fit into a diane von furstenburg top from tribeca- not a very pretty sight i must admit.. i did not actually get much shopping done as dad decided to join us for 'damage-control' purposes, i believe.

we had 'luc-ner' (the meal in between lunch and dinner) on a battlefield i.e. takashimaya food court and i ordered this korean noodle soup dish that when presented, looked no different from a packet of instant noodles with egg added and stirred till it became stringy little bits- just the way i wanted it! no kidding~

i finally caught 'the village' with my mum at the club yesterday.. i think my mum and i are definately a couple of ah-hems who do nothing for box offices around the world as we would only catch movies that are shown at the club when they are FREEEEE! can you imagine the cinema-ticket prices these days!? .. anyway, i kind of expected the ending actually.. well it did happen to be a m. night shayamalan movie so there would definately have been a twist otherwise the twist would be that there was not a twist. phew- trying saying the last sentence aloud in 3 seconds man..

it is tough to sum up friday night.. friday evening was swell (cannot exactly go wrong with ruffles bbq and non-stop bitching about eyeforaguy2) but friday night? wai and i attended a tribeca spring/summer runway launch at thumper.. to sum it up, there was a lot of waiting for the fashionably late and too much people-watching at the un-fashionably punctual.. and wai, you naughty girl! stop making me sound like some psycho determined to live out my richard-gere fantasies.. even if i were! ...

eck, i wish i had pictures to show you guys but for some biological reason, i can never seem to whip out my camera fast enough to "capure the moment"..

oh yes, before i end- ALL THE BEST FOR YOUR EXAMS, YANG!!! go kick some ass yayyayyay you can do it... erm haha.. trying to do my best impersonation of a high school cheerleader..

ode to bumpers.

LONG WEEKEND!
my much-deserved looooonngggg weeekend has finally arrived..

anyway, going to meet waiii at novena in a while to unleash our inner-domestic-goddess.. that is, if you consider ruffles, pizza and all that junk 'normal family food'.. well the maericans do.. then we will pop by her place to catch re-runs of eyeforaguy2.

hopefully, getting something going tonight...

glut.

right now, i am feeling as stuffed as a christmas turkey ready to be carved and served AND am still thinking about the marble cake that is lying in the pantry. i really hate eating when i am bored or when i am not even remotely hungry. $%$*@%*$@%

i really hate what i have to do for work right now- dialling up international airport subsidiaries such as ministries and help centres to see if the telephone lines still function. if not, i will have to look up the internet to check for the updates.

sounds easy-peasy right> TAHHH! dead WRONG! can you imagine trying to locate kunming aviation centre, only to realise that kunming is part of yunnan and that the whole freakin' china shares one aviation centre, which by the way does not have any website to boot. frankly, the thought of just going through all the damn kunming travel sites gross me out. i am seeing all these environmental clean-up sites and i dread to think of what lies behind those wedsite because we all know where such places stand on the gross-o-meter.

in a pissypissy mood now. i am going to leave the office soon and soak up my long holiday.
three's my company.

with an extra thick dose of over-confidence, i am going to admit i love my new blog skin.

-p.s is the font killing you guys?
saturday night live.

sigh, a night marred by badbadbad weather which left us looking as glamorous as drowned chickens as we braved the rain and lightening in search of a cab..

heck it, tomorrow night will be swell!

grrr, i still have so many photos to put up..

applepuffed.

argh! can somebody please invent a way to eat flaky apple turnovers from delifrance without getting all that flour and apple filling onto your face and crumbs all over your outfit and workdesk?!

i am worn out from work. like it is about time right? i have been crazily rushing through the mini details such as catering, name labelling, invitation consolidating, not forgetting rsvp-ing and calling up people to remind them about tomorrow's medical seminar. but the day does not end here as i have yet to receive seminar handouts, which means i have yet to print and consolidate them. and believe when i say that the silly colour copier on the 17th floor never fails to screw up when i need it most. #%#%$@%Y^ but at least i am busy.

but right now i am sleepy too, no thanks to the beef-and-salmon combo from yoshinoya. i bet you must been thinking yoshinoya?! yeap, i decided to take a leap of faith and forgo my comfort blanket to try out something that belonged to those secondary school days. haha.. my life sure is thrilling isn't it?

sure is uplifting.

job perks! i am currently staring at the delifrance catering menu, wondering just what to order for next week's seminar. i have to get ask the rest what they would prefer as usually our clients end up not even close to finishing and the rest of the team gets to vulture in.. gosh, i can practically sniff out the aroma of the mini turkey ham and cheese croissants and savour the mini almond croissants, which are filled with butter almond cream and topped off with flaked toasted almond. i am not hallucinating. am i enjoying my trusted duty? is lenin russian?

look where technology has taken us to
oh dear, isn't low carbohydrates bread an oxymoron of the most fortutious kind? i can almost hear the shrieks of joy and exasperation coming from singaporeans, myself not withstanding. -curtsies

i caught it takes two with zhu and diana last night at the victoria theatre. whilst zhu spent a good time simply in awe of how lucky we were to have been ushered into the theatre by the producer herself, i spent my night wondering how some talented or maybe even gifted some people were. let's say, you had the versatility for different roles be it indonesian taitai or filipina domestic help, a comic timing that never failed to deliver, not to mention a diagphram built for harmonious crooning or projection ... how in the world do you convince yourself to NOT pursue your given path of performing. i mean, you ware practically created for this position, huxley-eerie as it may sound. at times, i truly wonder if these gifted people had a easier time trying to figure out what they wanted to. maybe overseas huh? where talent, and not some stiff laminated scroll that led you into your future.

You Should Date A Swede!

You're a romantic, albeit an understated and practical one.
It's more about a steady partnership for you, not unrestrained falling
Your Swede will give you the unwavering love you crave
While making up some mean pancakes and meatballs on the side!

what the heck? seriously, like it isn't bad enough that my knowledge and interest with swedan begins and ends with ikea and meatballs. well, at least they make MEAN meatballs..
journey of glee.

what a grand day.

i have a good feeling about today. was it the sugary-tinged breakfast? how about lunch with collegues? hmmm, could be the fact that i will be meeting up with zhu for dinner at esplanade and catching 'it takes two' with her and diana...

you know it is really interesting to go through travel sites on singapore. somehow it seems normal, even commonplace to drool over the sidewalks and streets of new york city or the hustle & bustle of tokyo...

but when i read about caucasians and tourists writing about singapore- the cultural scene of singapore, outlets to have fun in, to dine in or shop till you d-r-o-p, i get this odd tingly feel- like how most places appear to be so familar yet foreign and out-of-touch of a moment. most places are not unknown to us but how many of us really observe singapore through the lens of someone who has a completely unbiased view of this island we call 'boring.'

see me!

like right now, i have this burning desire to visit sentosa..

Coffee & Toast

a toast of adrenaline.

sugar overload alert!

after gamely allowing myself to enter the sometimes-forbidden premises of coffee&toast down at the citylink, i decided to indulge in raspberry and kaya toast, with tea.

see what happens is they provide you with two slices of toast, cut and paired into 4 delightfully slim squares. following that, the pairs are slathered on with either the nostalgic-favourite kaya and butter or another delectant of your choice like peanut-butter-and-honey or raspberry. normally the slathering happens only on one inside of the toast to reduce the cringe-factor.

but somehow, the people over at coffee&toast seemed to have a knack for getting my orders wrong (as they was not the first time- they got the butter.... ). when i asked for raspberry and kaya toast, i end up with toast that had one inside covered in raspberry and kaya on the other inside --> double the sweetness, double the calories. instead of kaya on two pairs and raspberry on the other two pairs (done separately)

and my teh-kosong! frankly i had no idea if it was because the toasts were THIS sweet that it led me to believe that my teh (which was supposedly devoid of milk and suger) was sugared or that it really HAD sugar in it.

so right now, i am just dying to get out of my seat and walk to raffles hotel, to bugis, to raffles cit- oh, what a start to a thursday morning. haha.

after i told my mum i was determined to try this overpriced eatery just to see what it is all about, she then offered to treat me for my birthday {which falls on JULY 26 BY THE WAY} -deadpans-

it takes two!
going to watch!
kudos to zhu for getting FREE tickets.. haha.. what an uplifting change from just heading home after work!

Tuesday, May 10

getting some action.

last night was probably as unpretenious as it could get.

i finally met up with missing-in-singapore-for-8mths-wai in all of places plaza singapura food court! haha.. and i was actually think of those semi-swanky resturants like crystaljade, sushitei but boy was it a relief when we did not have to go to those chichi outlets for good company.. we bonded over friedfishbeehoon, grilled chicken rice and mango icekachang before WALKING over to taka for coconut tutu and garlic&butter mussles at mos burger ... it was still quite weird in the beginning though i mean, it felt unreal that i was not talking to her through a 15inch lcd monitor.. haha..

when we updated each other on our lives (or the lack of, in my case), the things she said or got up to in canada... DAMN (insert ghetto-chick accent here) , i knew i was missing out on some action!

Monday, May 9

caf-fix.

i am seriously addicted to rotiboy.

miss ade, if you happen to be reading this
DINNER this friday with the denn and diana
see ya babe!
it's my party,

time to RANTrantRANT!

i wish i had the guts to walk into my director's office and tell her i quit. this job is getting crazily boring and the only thing that is worth getting all excited about is what corporate outfit to wear ever morning- guess what, even this takes place at home! #$%#^$^&&^*(

i wish i could grab hold of a bionic-helluva disease sweeper and whack all the dumbasses of this world. i am so tired of reading some people's blogs or just listening to them. they are so remarkably frivolous you feel like doing mankind a favour by donating their brains to neurologists so that they can find a cure to eliminate room-temperature-high-IQs.

i feel like screaming into the ear of the ahbeng who asked to add me on friendster 'hoping that i don't mind LOR' to take a good hard look at himself in the mirror and ask why i would even give him the time of my day and then .. watch it echo echo echoooooo in that hollow numbskull which he calls his head.

and i cry if i want to.

Thursday, May 5

priis, gimme hello kitty.

i just have to blog this- i called up XXX company, wanting to speak to their hr director and the receptionist went, "h'on priis.."

just in case you are still scratching your head, i think what she meant to say was "hold on, please"

ok, just add that to our very original locally-made lingo of gahmen (goverment), relecc (relax), -zher (teacher)

skew me, coz i really found that wildly amusing

did you know that today is fruit day? well i just found out too when i saw an orange accompanied by a little note, lying on my desk, given to us by the human resource department. how thoughtful.

Wednesday, May 4

book bounded.

oh dorian, carly simon's you're so vain was written for you...composed and harmonized for you.. sang for you.. but i cannot deny the commendable effort it took me to finish this short novel. with all its incessant non-dialogue and rationales, i felt even more tired than before reading it. right now, i feel like an ignorant townfolk from the emperor's new clothes, wondering if i should nod in agreement that the novel had the makings of a classic. sure, it was aseop-y showing how ugly man's vanity had made him but i cannot be sure if i enjoyed the story and if i have to ask myself that, the answer is probably no.

oh well, moving on-

in aticipation of tomcruise's latest hair-folicle-blowing blockbuster, i have decided to embark on The War of the Worlds by Herbert George Wells.. three books and more than twenty chapters.. i need all the luck and perserverence i can get! i am just about done with chapter 3 and i must say, it is looking good~

Tuesday, May 3

dorian's remedy.

"The ugly and the stupid have the best of it in this world. They can
sit quietly and gape at the play. If they know nothing of victory,
they are at least spared the knowledge of defeat..."

-Basil Hallward, Oscar Wilde's Picture of Dorian Gray

after reading one too many food and resturant reviews and calorie counters, i have decided to embark on what i would refer to as a way-overdue commencement of oscar wilde's picture of dorian gray. here is the best part, i did not even have to purchase a brand-new over-priced copy from borders or kinokuniya or wait for hoggers to finish at the library's.. i am actually going to read it online from my notebook! which serves up a particularly good purpose when my boss thinks i am fastidiously peering into the notebook for work-related purposes.. viva la internet!

Monday, May 2

is it.

long weekend, notthing eventful yet again. except i attended a school meeting at starbucks millenia walk. discovered the exhilerating joys of rhumba frappucino LIGHT (119kcals to be exact). caught up with ade and shared our woes of seriously senseless people. sealed my title as a domestic goddess cleanliness freak by shopping for sushi and a can of insect repellant, ahem bygone. attended sukfen's 20th birthday with no signbaord swafood and sushi from sushi tei. went to my aunt's house for my grandparents' death anniversaries. had supper at black angus with mel and darr (much to my pseudo-reluctance).

hmm, not such a boring weekend afterall.

Sunday, May 1

hairy bits.

darkened and fringed it.
say hello to my new hairdo~
