Bintan 2019 - Part 2

Hello hello, I'm back with Part 2 on what we ate at the resort. It's nothing too fancy but staying at a resort meant we had all our meals on site. We could have ventured out but we were too darn lazy and not feeling particularly adventurous.

Breakfast was covered at the main restaurant, The Dining Room. I didn't take any pictures of the food (ha, such a different blogger these days) but there was a very decent set-up of local and western options. I had the most amazing egg white omelette with at least 3 different types of sambal. I do wish their juices tasted less like they came out of a box.

All dressed up for dinner x

We spent one dinner at Rica Rica, which specialises in Indonesian food. I have to say, Indonesian food agrees with me. The spices, the condiments, the sambal! Everything tasted so flavourful. Before our meal, they served keropok and rice crackers with dips on the side. Yay! Must-orders at Rica Rica include the satay and mie goreng.

Other than those meals, we -ahem- had room service otherwise. Look away, true foodies!

Every time we ask the boys whether they prefer to eat outside or “back in our room” - the latter is a clear winner. Haha ... To be honest, it’s easier for us parents too. We are such homebodies. The boys absolutely love room service - I think it makes them feel like we are “home,” and not just another hotel.

We had such a lovely time - I just need to remind Russell that not all villas come with a private pool 😂😂😂

Bintan 2019 - Part 1

Hello there, we are back from Bintan!

A short getaway for the four of us, as we milked the week-long school holidays. We stayed at The Residence, which was great for resort noobs like us. It took us 1 hour 40 minutes by ferry and another hour by car to get to our resort. The ferry ride wasn't all that bad, there wasn't much to do but we kept ourselves entertained with books and Amazin' Graze nuts. Those nuts are insanely delicious! We bought some for Russell's teachers for Teachers' Day and kept a pack for ourselves; they were incredibly moreish and I bought a few more packs for my in-laws.

Coming back to The Residence - It was lovely and quiet, modern but not sterile. The food was really good too though you pay Singapore prices. Best of all, the staff were all genuinely caring and polite. I loved how they really paid attention to details (granted it's not the fastest service) like how we didn't need to queue to check in and how that lemongrass drink we had on arrival was so refreshing.

We had a one-bedroom villa with a private pool - you can imagine plenty of time was spent wading around. There is a huge pool for everyone in the resort that we visited once but nothing beats having your own dip, yeah?

We really just scratched the tip of the iceberg. Though the resort has lots of activities like rock-climbing and paintball, I spent lots of time painting. I’ve recently caught the paint-by-numbers bug (it’s probably not even a thing and I’m just trying to sound cool) and it's so incredibly therapeutic.

There’s a kids club too with daily activities WHERE YOU CAN DROP OFF YOUR KIDS AND BID ADEIU... but our boys preferred to just stay with us and keep things relaxed. Bless their tiny beings.

We spent 3 days at The Residence, when we got home, I found myself looking up resorts for our trip. Sigh, bitten by the resort bug for sure. I will let the pictures speak for themselves and blog more about what we ate soon.
