tv nights.

project runway last night: i fear for austin, what's gotten into that blond coiffed drama-mama? anyhows, i am still rooting for him and kara saun, the rest are either too heck-care, angsty, arrogant or heterosexual to win. haha..

if you have channel 16 on cable, this is a gem to catch.

Secret Recipe

alas finance finito.

first paper (finance) is over and i have just cleared my laptop desktop of anything that vaguely reminds me of finance. not that the paper went badly but i have this naggy eczema-like feeling that i have been very careless. last night, i was too coward to open up the intranet to check my marketing grade, after two somewhat-disastrous case reports and a real-test2-downer, i was not too sure i would appreciate my self- esteem plummeting to a new low just before the finance exam. today i decided to face up to reality. not thrilled- just relieved.

sigh onto more heartening affairs

after dabbling through the interior of our home, mum found her place in the kitchen, well more like in front of the oven and baked a carrot cake. her first cake in fift-, whoops twenty-six years! though the betty crocker recipe was simple enough to follow, translating it into action required unyielding effort of hand- grating the carrots and hand- mixing the mix for a good few minutes (thank god for ready- sliced almonds!) in taste, to be truthful, i absolutely enjoyed it. choked full of almonds, i ignored doctor's orders for the day and helped myself to the fluffy betacarotene-rich dessert.

while mum thinks of more cakes to bake, i can finally fulfil my childhood dream of waking up to the aromatic goodness of something baking in the kitchen.

vietnamese beef noodle from secret recipe- yup, the very same secret recipe that is synonmous with chees-chocolatey-cakes and western culinary features such as lamb shank stew and chicken le cordon bleu. though i was caught off guard by the intense darkness of the broth, surprise soon set in with the chunky meatball that i swear, produced a faint 'toiii-ng' sound when i bit into it- so does not taste like supermarket bought meatballs. with generous helpings of beef slices and delectable beefballs, a slick bowl of beef noodles was delivered.

Adam Road Nasi Lemak

when adam met gutherie.

though i am an early- bird by nature, i would only wake up EXTRA early on a sunday morning for one reason and ONE reason only- grocery shopping at cold storage gourmet at gutherie house along sixth avenue.. arh, i just thrive *think dreamy here* in that homely atmosphere borne out of the fresh aromatic coffee and bakery just nearby.. ok fine, i admit i am a supermarket snob and although ntuc is frequented for convenience reasons, i have absolutely no spanking desire to patronise somewhere like 'shop and save' because to me, grocery shopping is all about the "eeeex-pe-rienceeeee"- my marketing prof would have been proud.

we used to go to the gourmet cold storage more frequently in the past but lifestyle changes (read laziness) gave way to other brunch options. anyway i initially had every intention of going down to 'simpy bread' for breakfast so you can imagine my surprise when dad turned into adam road food centre instead.

but well, there are probably a dozen bakeries in denmark but hell-no nasi lemak or mee soto... and this is literally nasi lemak fit for a king, in our case the sultan of brunei who gets his takeway from here. although there are a couple of nasi lemak stores, this is supposedly the queue to join (second store from left upon entrance).. although i must be honest, i cannot tell the difference.. they are all good!

royal flush- otak, chicken wing, fried egg and potato cutlet with a heavy dose of sambal and ikan bilis.

doctor to himself: *rubbs hands together* "at this rate, i can start planning for my french polynesian holiday..."

Image hosted by Photobucket.com

whilst Parents were at cold storage, i wandered off to 'simply bread' for a cursory visit and my, how much it has grown since the last time i was there! the bread/ sandwich culture is definitely thriving in singapore.. a tribute to gaultier's pain culture, the sticky bun and raisin+strawberry jam pastry caught my eye though after that fiasco at breakfast, i had enough sense to walk away.

concidentally, mum went over later to get brunch for jimmy and jie and bought the exact same pastries that i had been eying. are we predictable or what? haha..

Ivins

doing it the nonya way.

in view of the arriving exams, we decided to give sushi tei a miss and instead headed down to ivins along upper thomson road where traditional peranakan food was order of the day for Family.

first up, desset! haha.. as mum could not resist kueh salat that they were selling over at the counter. an irish- friendly luscious green slabbed on top of blue-tinged glutinous rice- one of the better kueh salats i have tried.. be sure to get yourself a box (of two) when you are around that corner.

along came soups -actually the dishes came more or less at the same time- bakwan kepting (crabmeat-infused porkballs soup- my particular favourite) and hee peow soup, provided a warm fuzzy feeling for a drizzly day. i could be just happy with a bowl of bakwan kepeting and white rice. very low- maintenance.. hahaha..

ayam buah keluak (chicken in black nut curry, above left) was a scary looking dish that tasted better it looked wheras the babi tauyu (pork in thick sauce, left) reminded me of braised pork that chinese usually sandwich between mantous. drizzle some of that fantastica gravy over a spoonful of white rice and you think "truffles? what truffles?"- bliss.

nonya chap chye- which i believe needs no formal introduction. though somewhat bland COMPARED TO AYAM BUAH KELUAK, the problem was easily solved with a dap of sambal belachan.

itek sioh (braised duck marinated in coriander and tamarind sauce) which was a dish safei.e.boring Family would not have ordered if not for jimmy. its funny how whenever we have peranakan or indonesian, after ordering the safe dishes (read: tauhu telok), jimmy would come along, mix those bahasa muscles of his and order something really exotic sounding (see: itek sioh) of course, his choices are always spot-on and this itek sioh is definitely something to have if you are sick of ordering ayam curry and beef rendang.. haha

i know talking about prices would crass-ify the entire experience but it was amazing how 'inexpensive' the total dinner bill came up to. apart from dad's $2.20 lime juice (which was gone in two gulps), the rest of the dishes averaged between S$4- S$5.. and there was no service charge! indeed, we suffered from 'diner's guilt' and left behind the change for it was nothing compared to the pleasanr dining experience we got.
une table pour deux, s’il vous plait.

which means "a table for two, please"- in french.

while blog surfing and half- visiting different countries, i am constantly amazed by what each country has to offer gastromically. i always go, "when i visit belgium.. i must try this!" or "this is the bakery to visit in kyoto.. " thus in an attempt to preserve such memories, i created a new column so that should you guys have a chance to visit this places, you can have something other than temples and castles to look forward to!

i will be diligently adding to this collection of muck finds.. though completing these travels requires a lifetime's worth of effort.. oh well,

a borrowed phrase from peter mayle, "ça vaut le voyag"- it's worth the trip!

espla-nah.

i rejected my esplanade internship acceptance this afternooon.

the internship would have consisted of front-of-house work and customer service duties; five days a week for 2 weeks; weekends included; with shift option 1- 8:30am-6pm..and option 2- 12nn- 10:30pm; no pay.

i am still wondering if i made the wrong decision.. i mean it would quite cool to work at esplanade beind the scenes and all that.. of course! as an intern you will get all the dirty, not to mention dusty grimmy, behind the scenes action you have to slog for.. but still its the esplanade!

but the more i think about it, the more convinced i am of making the right decision. first there's the issue of no pay.. since they were a not-for-profit organisation -did you know that?- then there's the horrid work hours.. judging by how i would probably have to spend the next thirty years of my working life chained to a desk- bound job, i figured hey! i could do with one less month of crap office hours. moving on, there was the issue of dates, it was originally stated 5th-18th of dec but they later told me that they could only offer 19th dec- 1st jan.. and when i asked the lady if i had to work on christmas, she very reluctantly said 'maybe'. ARE YOU NUTS!? i don't mean to sound haughty-potty but they KNEW i was going on exchange next jan and there is HELL NO WAY i would sacrifice my last festive holiday, possibly in the cloak room of esplande.

i think the culture of internships in singapore is very different from that of say, the states. though i only have jie and jimmy's friends' experience to fall back on, their interships seem like an unofficial extended job interview with the firm of very possibly employing you full-time upon graduation, should they find your performance more than satisfactory of course.

but here in singapore, internship to me spells- 'free' if not 'minimal wage labour'. though it makes employers sound machiavielli-esque, i get the feeling every school holiday, companies here absolutely delight in choosing from a pool of students to perform dirty work that no current employee would do. its like after three months, all you get is "aww you are leaving, what a pity.. we were just finding you soo useful"

am i generalising? well, from what i have heard so far. i don't think so.

Kai Ho

jap.

for a fuss-free lunch, mum and i headed over to kai ho japanese restaurant at international plaza level 2.

Image hosted by Photobucket.com Image hosted by Photobucket.com

where we ordered two udon sets (which came with an ala carte dish of your choice and chawanmushi)- and we boiled it down to seafood and vegetable tempura and yakiniku beef.

Image hosted by Photobucket.com

unlike other japanese eateries, the udon here is slimmer than usual- quite a refreshing change and i liked the soup so much, i drank up mum's portion as well... as for the ala cartes, the tempura batter was daintily light, lending a periheral kick to the already-crunchy prawns whilst the yakiniku was a saucy complement to the subtly sweet nature of the udon. though the chawanmushi was a pass-over, there was much appreciation over the fineries of the other dishes.

old time favourties

old time favourties.

Image hosted by Photobucket.com

a coffee shop that has been better days and worn fairer coats of paint, teo chew eating house plays host to the famous serangoon fried hokkien mee.

the allure of this fried hokkien mee lies within the experienced handstrokes of the hawker and old style leaves wrapping.. with a drier touch, the preserved (due to wrapping) smokey flavourgamely grips the tastbuds, causing one to wade in sheer felicity thereafter.

a new find: oiishi curry puffs. after work, dad drove to queen's street at bugis to get gao lak (roasted chestnuts) and landed up with a box of 'oiishi curry puffs'. i am so tempted to break into one of those exaggerated japan-hour theatrics..

verdict? -wow. invitingly shaped and pleasantly puffed, i thought of this curry puff as more moist, lighter and tantalizingly crisp than now-dethroned old chang kee. yumyumyumymumumymumumymyuum.

Image hosted by Photobucket.com

i caught tan kheng hua's 'table for three' on channel 5 tonight and it was 'stylist'- theme, so basically she had clarence lee (make up artist), grego oh (hair stylist) and vernon sim (dresser) present to viewers their favourite muck outlets.

MYLORDYLORDY- the 3 men were so gay, you could fill up a barrel with their feminity. haha.. oh grego oh was sooo delectably wacky and fun to watch! he reminded me of a japanese cartoon superhero, cherub face round eyes and all.. his hands gestures and eye language literally had me grinning like a fool in front of the tv.

something scary caught my eye while watching the nine thirty news trailer. fyi- psle results were released today. anyway, the journalists and crew visited the rosyth primary school to interview the top psle student.. when i saw RED TAPE!.. as in the students were centered within the school hall whilst parents were held back by those candy-cane plastic rolls of film that were used to border off say accident areas, construction sites and PRIMARY SCHOOLS! wahhhhhhhtttt!? haha.. i am pretty sure if there were an aerial view of the school, there would have been paramedics and stretchers on stand-by.. christ, the civil defence unit could have been called down too... and this is ONLY PSLE?!

<-- an illustration.

haha... i am sorry but i find this awfully funny.. were they expected a riot or something? all those kan-cheong parents hanging on to that shimmer of hope.. half-thinking that this exam could make or break their child's first-class-honours 5Cs-paved future. ok, i should really stop making fun of them lest i became a crazy take-half-day-off-to-supervise-my-psle-kid mum..

sigh, if you think our civil laws are tough, wait till you try our education system.

crying foul.

today in strait's times world section, two headlines dominate page 16.

"Howard rules out ICJ appeal for drug trafficker Nguyen" & "Chee Soon Juan calls for global protest"

then almost too easy to miss, "6 million kids a year die hungry"

you really do not brain science to do the math or to realise how many people are unecessarily receiving the death penalty every SINGLE day (their only crime? to been born in poverty).

to those who call for clemency and sympathy for "small- time drug traffickers," i have have this to say to you- if you want to cry for a cause, make sure the cause you are crying for is at least honourable.

Coco Exotic

say m-u-m m-u-m.

today, my blog is one year and a day old *coochicoochicoo*

haha.. baby talk aside, it is also a day where we celebrate all things NEW. new clothes. new delights. new white elephants that embrace a day's worth of natural light before getting sent back into the closet- ouch.

but cmon we all know that's the fate of party dresses~ .. how many times have you worn your prom dress? or harboured the thought of abusing your feet with those four inch heels that looked better ON a display cabinet than on your feet? then again, it is the lavish thought of having your skin carressed by beautifully crafted silk and satin that drives too many of us loco.

the elusive green party frock.

yang, check out mum's new three-light chandelier.. haha, she mentioned you will be so jealous! too pretty for words huh?

i know i shouldn't have but i did it anyway. a week before the exams and i treated myself to two new books by blue-eye author of the moment: peter mayle.

sigh the only books i should be reading now should have the words 'mcgraw-hill publishing' printed on their spines .. but i c-a-n-n-o-t wait to get started on mayle-lit.

'french lessons'- a travel narrative throughout france and 'acquired tastes'- a novel on the appreciation of the finer trinkets and gastro- experiences in life. compelling!

Image hosted by Photobucket.com

happy birthday jie! coco exotic introduced during my internship at international sos. with exhorbitant sheets of choc- delight layered seamlessly on top one another and a sizable wafer bottom that never fails to surprise first- time nibblers.. do yourself a favour and get yours from four leaves or panaderie bakery today!

oh loardy i am sooo digging project runway.
next week: wedding challenge!

Macs

today, Family ran out of dining ideas and we decided to order in lunch. there is just something so inveigling about mcdonald's "mackkers". the poster boy of comfort food and a subject of contention for so many others, there is no denying the appeal of the golden arches every once in a while.

Image hosted by Photobucket.com through sheer herculean effort, these managed to stay out of reach (and into jimmy's tummy).

Image hosted by Photobucket.com i never understood the power of minced chicken until i had a mcnugget. dipped into barbeque sauce and you get pure ambrosia sandwiched between your fingertips.

Image hosted by Photobucket.com sigh, the whiff of sourish mayo is on a slab of fish patty is enough to make me swoon.

i don't blame you for grabbing your chest after seeing these pictures. haha.

rojak. though the term 'rojak' is used to describe a mix of just about everything.. a good rojak's claim to fame is the supposed careless throwing in of ingredients, mambo-jumboed in in prawn past peanut sauce to finally produce a dish that encompasses the winning precision of savoury and sweetness. brain science.

Sichuan Court

something so sweet.

Reeses Peanut Butter Cups

Very popular, one of you is not enough.

another quiz to answer questions on "finding the real 'me'".
and i beg to differ, one of me is almost too much. haha.
but reese's- i am not complaining.

i know i know. what happened to the food blog? well, exams are coming up and really, eating is more or less out of necessity and thus somewhat restrictered to the oh-so-familar grounds of homemade noodles and yong tau foo.

today with two hours to kill before lunch with mum and i decided to take the mrt down to her office to meet her. well what was supposedly a 'head straight to train station' turned out to be a two hour foray in raffles city and city link.

there's a new island shop on level 2.. i never had any reason to visit a resort wear shop (halloween is over, guys) but i decided to take a look.. my! i was pretty much amazed by how interesting the outfits were.. i wouldn't say there are the it clothes of the season, but the stylish take on resort wear is frankly, refreshing.. and the accessories are really quite a league of their own. too bad i only have two ears.. and there are only so many earrings you can wear at one time..

can't decide what to buy for someone who has everything i can afford and probably more than what i can handle.. so i got gift certificates from metropolitan art musuem for jie's birthday present..

Image hosted by Photobucket.com Image hosted by Photobucket.com

a light lunch was the order of the day so mum and i dined very simply at sichuan court. two very femme- friendly bowls of noodles (zha jiang mien and sichuan dandan mien) and a plate of 3 duck-tail guo ties. haha.

Image hosted by Photobucket.com Image hosted by Photobucket.com

real fuss free huh? delightful nonethless.

as part of christman raffles city currently has a noel food counter at their main square and i got myself caramel popcorn! ooo, how i have a fetish for popcorn- more so than chocolate! brown, caramelized high-GI nicks that do nothing for your nutrition- what a kick what a kick.

Image hosted by Photobucket.com
i think only yang can understand how i truly feel for popcorn.
dont't fret.
the people who annoy the crappp out of you are only there
to make you appreciate the rest.

Wednesday, November 16

wednesday's load.

snacking on a plain french baguette makes me feel like an ex- trafalgar square pigeon. "ex"- because the londoners cleared up the area and chased all the pigeons away.. but fortunately, i do remember nicking the complimentary hotel breakfast rolls to feed the peckish pigoens. the gloveless agony of breaking apart of hardened rolls in cold winters and the instant gratification when ALLL the damn pigeons eventually flock towards you and literally climb on top of your head.

i am exhausted. my finance report that i diligently finished last night before 9:45pm got mysteriously saved over by another document and i spent the entire afternoon and evening racking my brains trying to recall the sources i used to piece the article back together. i hope i didn't give the consolidator too much trouble by submitting my part late.

just completed some parts of the finance powerpoint presentation slides.. still waiting for another group member's. i hope i do not receive it too late since i intend to finish compiling by tonight. i am too tired to do any further revision so i am just going to w-a-i-t.

bummer of lots, i think i might have to give 'rent' a miss since one of my final papers is on a saturday morning, following the friday performance. and though i personally think it is too late to do anything on friday night, guilt prevents me from enjoying a night's out at the kallang theatre. disappointed? -you bet. but too tired to get enraged..

on the bright end, i managed to sign up for a much-contested marketing research study for friday, thus completing some credits for my marketing module! donning lady luck's robes, i have also found a friend who is willing to lend me his twc textbook to tide me over the final exams preparations (remember the whole too-cheapskate-too-pay-$32 for a textbook saga). sigh.

i am feeling remarkably emo right now.
in exactly two months and ten minutes, i will be flying off. though i cannot wait to leave, there seems to be too much to leave behhind. even for just six months.
this school term fly by in a whiz (thank god!) but the relationships forged amounted to great delight. i don't usually get all fuzzr-wharmy with people but the few people i have in my mind right now-

the late night spent at various eateries. the relief you provide under fatally- boring italiaNO classes. the laughs we have shared over celebrity gossip and diets.

and i think to myself- what a pleasure to have known you guys.

Tuesday, November 15

msn "invisible".

time of the year again- exams. horrid. question: why do people still go go online on msn and post nicks like, "DND: Exertremely Busy" or "Mugging- please do not msg me" or best"Warning: Will bite if provoked" ..

just 'appear offline' or abstain msn for the time being. sigh, a poor attempt at sounding busy when in actual fact, you just want people to msn you for the sake of doing so. haha.

on the other hand, i do miss the 'invisible' mode that icq had(remember that luminous green flower icon? that 'aeh-oh' cutesy noise when someone logs in?) .. like if i only want to talk to two people for project work, you can't expect me to manually 'block' and 'unblock' the rest right? even for a shorrtttt msn list like mine- it's too much work! haha..

a funny dream i had last night. i dreamt i was a convenience store and was delibating whether to succumb to a chunky issidious-looking peanut butter kit kat. finally, i decided against it (no man is an island but one spare tyre is good enough) .. then it struck me (after i woke up that) DAMN, i should have tasted that bloody kit kat.. since calories are non-existent on dreams right?! $%@^% .. aw man..

SICC pastries

tortise day out.

"look ma, i can c-l-i-m-b" .. my camera has an exhorbitant number (19 to be exact) of tortise pictures. which were not taken by yours truly. in fact, jie and jimmy has used my camera to record 'sweet memories' of their tortoise's first day out in the garden. acting like parents for the first time, it must have been like "snap this! our tortise has just climbed over a pebble half his size! " or "snap this, the turtle has moved an inch on his own without us prodding!"

poor tortise though, the garden must have been such an obstacle course for him.. so much so that he had to seek shelter from the greeneries.

healthy instant noodles? is that possible? well, i sure hope so.. lunch today was an experimental affair as i tried the koka instant noodles which claimed to be "low-fat, gluten-free, no msg or preservatives added" and since i am suck a sucker for this seemingly too-good-to-be-true proclaimation, i decided to give it a go.. experimental since if this trial testing passes, i could be loading packs of it into my luggage for denmark.. hey a girl can't live on chocolates, pastries and smoked herring alone, no?

Image hosted by Photobucket.com
lunch is served!

verdict? it was surprisingly edible despite the lack of ingrediants.. the kway teow was chewy enough and the soup flavourful enough.. the word here is 'enough'.. at $1.50 for lunch- what the hell do you expect?! on the other hand, the fact that i am licking my lips after half an hour of eating it does not exactly spell much about its health benefits. pass or fail? -can do la.. seriously when in denmark, it is cheap comfort and will serve its purpose in the chilly scandanavian winters.

since it was SUPPOSEDLY healthy, i decided to treat myself with what esle but pastries from the club (yes, again?!) wellll.........

Image hosted by Photobucket.com
carrot cake, mango roll and marble cheesecake.

much as i would have liked to demolish the entire plate, the lack of a satisfactory marital status prevented me from doing so.. so a little bit of this and a little bit of that.. mum loves the carrot cake.. but i still prefer cedele's.. the mango roll- self- explainatory agreeable and light on the tummy.. the cheesecake? hmmm it was more moist than jimmy's bluberry birthday cheesecake and definately softer..

arh, you cannot really go wrong with pastries from the club..

it is amazing how the guys in my marketing team clamp up conveniently when real work needs to be done.. there are so much ideas and suggestions thrown out during brainstorming but when things like coming out with the powerpoint slides and consolidation of the final report needs to be done- everyone just assumes their moment of silence.. HEY nincompoops, sorry to burst your bubble but the invisibility cloak just does not seem to be working..

four guys and two girls- where the other femme has done the consolidation of our final report, so i volunteered to do up the powerpoint slides.. and now, some assh*** (i apologise for having to resort to vulgarities) claims he can't send the slides before the stipulated time.. i really feel like telling him, "fine.. give it to me the last minute.. better yet, do a poor job of it... late and mediocore- YOUR TRADEMARK!" and stupidstupid-retardo-o-nono me actually let him choose the parts he preferred.. #$%*.. the more i think about it, the angrier i get- WITH MYSELF.

ARGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH.. he actually asks me to be more understanding @##@$@%@^#&^^*(&&%^.. i wish i knew more hokkien vulgarities.. i let you get away with sloppy work for the report. i let you choose the parts you want first... #$%#$%@^#%&%$^&*^(^ YOU DON'T DESERVE ANY UNDERSTANDING %$^*()*_%&^@$%@#

poor keyboard of mine.

Saturday, November 12

i don't like end my blog posts on a too serious note even though it is a great way to clear things off your chest...

so something really frivolous- i bought a white eyeliner from beaute de kose. here's a tip, apply white eyeliner on the bottom lid of your eyes to enhance your eye shape and to create that 'alert and bright' look.

haha.
you've been prick'd.

got my flu jab!
my cousin administered the jab just above my hips.. well, on my love handles to be exact for pain minization purposes. good to know the spare tyre is there for a reason.

there was christmas maddness shopping at paragon today as metro was having a storewide 20% sale.. my sister grabbed a pair of black flats from nine west as according to her, she NEEDED a pair of black working flats.. sure sure, carpets at allen and gledhill cannot be trounced upon by anything other dainty points and solid flats. well, it does make some sense when you think about how the queen of england herself does not allow anyone to walk in the middle of her palace carpets so as not to subject them to too much wear and tear. a very admirable quality to cultivate.

so much has been said about dawn yang.. i myself guilty of visitng online forum where they perpetually have a firing squad to tear her down. when i first visited her blog, i was taken aback by her perfect egg- shaped face, bambi eyes, and a thin straight nose that would not have looked unfamilar on any hollywood actress. with all the rumours flying, it is so easy to get carried away and think "ooo, DID YOU KNOW so-and-so had plastic surgery done... blah blah"

but when you think about it- what is the big fuss? i mean cmon we all that good-looking people earn more, have better job prospects and make better parents.. so who is to deny dawn yang of better than decent job proposals? though perhaps, she should came out of her crafted shell and challenge her critics not to think any less of her pre-surgery.. or maybe she should also throw the question back at them as to why can't she do something to boost her shot in life...

at this point in time, however, how is she to suddenly turn back and admit what she has done.. hmmm..

and to those who call her names like 'transversite' or liken her to micheal jackson or actually participate in polls to indicate whether they prefer her pre or post surgery.. shame on you for being a closet hypocrite.

SICC lunch and pastries

wednesday.

lunch at the club today was like a torrid love affair with all things local. it was a sorta farewell luncheon for my mum's friend, who is also my friend's mum -- which technically makes her my friend too.. haha anyway, how do you order lunch for someone who will away in china, nanjing? loads of local yummies naturally! there was beef hor fun, penang char kway teow, fried calamari, rojak, tahu goreng, hokkien mee, chicken wings and sorrowfully, as the dishes were constantly being passed around like a thannksgiving meal, i could not whip out my trusty camera in time to snap the bevy of droolsworthy food.

however, i knew someone up above was trying to tell me something when this plate of fried hokkien mee landed right in front of me, tantalizing, urging me to take a shot. behold, fried hokkien mee!

Image hosted by Photobucket.com

oodles of noodles stir-fried with fishcake and prawns with a fresh wallop of sourish-but-fiery sambal. the oh-so-smoky aroma turning me dizzy with pleasure and each mouthful swarmed in delight, urging me to go on go on... though it was on the 'wet' side, it was definately a well-appreciated lardy fardy affair.

the chicken wings were a force to be reckoned with as well. with a ginger punch to enhance the flavour, it was crrr-crisp on the outside and utterly juicy on the inside.. not difficult to see how fried chicken has won itself legions of fans over the decades. for a bigger kick, just gobble up the skin.. -please don't curse me when you land up on the operating table..

Image hosted by Photobucket.com

after that everyone proceeded chinese painting classes at the adjourning building. oh did i mention painting class was literally afternoon-tea-in-disguise? every week, someone would bring some snacks, be it pastries or kuehs, as chinese water-painting is SUCH HARD WORK. yea who am i kidding but anyway today we had mango tart, apple crumble and durian fudge cake. remember my mantra? - a little bit of this, and a little but of that.

the pastries over at the club are seriously good. the mango tart was heaven cupped in a tart. refreshingly satisfying, who the heck does not like mango?

Image hosted by Photobucket.com Image hosted by Photobucket.com

the apple crumble put up a mean fight and stood firm, winnning over my tastbuds with it crunchy apple filling and crumbly topping.. not a hint of heavy pastry- just apples and light crumbs.

finally, the durian fudge cake. i bet yang must be squirming in durham right now for this was HER cake.. full-bodied durian pulp layered between light sponge cake, coated in cream and white chocolate flakes. this will definitely make any durian activist kowtow to it.

Image hosted by Photobucket.com i promise you yang, i will be at changi airport with a durian cake in hand when you return! haha

i have a feeling these pictures will be responsible for the sudden increase in overseas students who will be returning back to singapore in december. book early to avoid disappointment!
