Bella's Appetiosa

Photobucket

I have a serious thing for pizza.

It is one of those do-no-wrong food. Even out of a frozen or delivery box, I have never had a bad pizza. "Bad pizza" is simply baked cheese on bread - how much of a travesty can that be? In fact, if I could pull an Adam Richman Man vs. Food stunt, pizza would be one of my top three picks.

At the risk of sounding like a commitment-phobe douchebag, after the first base, I usually like my pizza less complicated and top-heavy, with a bit more bite.

Bella Pizza's Pizza Appetiosa was a great way to celebrate the end of a work week. Que carb-induced early night. It was undoubtedly cheesy thanks to the mozzarella and parmesan, piqued with spicy salami and puckerish olives, and had a smokey, charred aroma to round up the heady flavours.

Definitely an I Likey.

Warm, fuzzy Wednesday

Photobucket

Finally nailed down the design of my evening gown - nude tulle and vintage lace - thanks to Ann, my tailor. It feels really nice to have Ann do my gown since she has been making suits and gowns for my mum since I was a kid. I remember visting her atelier then, and she would always offer me pencils and paper to doodle fashion designs while I waited for my mum.

To make my Wednesday even sweeter. I received a bunch of DIY rose salted caramel macarons from Danielle. "DIY" because she bottled the salted caramel buttercream separately, so that the macaron shells stayed crisp. When the craving hits, all I have to do is apply the buttercream onto the rose shells.

Hmm that is what she said, I think. It was difficult to pay full attention as I was nibbling on her pistachio rose 'experiment' macaron during the spiel. By the way, this guinea pig likes the experiment macaron.

Mmm, I can tell this rose salted caramel Macarune baby would help tide me over the rest of the work week.

Don Quijote

I’m going to blame my plebian exchange-student-tastebuds. Although I thoroughly enjoyed my trip to Spain, the grub didn’t cause any out-of-body experience – apart from those damn bocadilos-fillers which forced me out of skinny jeans.

But the tapas way of eating resonates with the snacker in me. Small plates, casual and communal. In Singapore, my point of reference is restricted to Bodega Y Tapas so I was quite excited about trying out Don Quijote.

Not in the mood for cold tapas, the family a smattering of stuff under the ‘Hot Tapas’ section such as Chorizo Asado (barbequed Spanish sausages), Vieiras al Horno (oven-baked whole scallops), Camarones a la Plancha (barbequed prawns with garlic sauce), Ensalada de Esparragos con Atún (tuna and asaparagus salad – nuff’ said), Huevos Estrellados (scrambled eggs with chorizo and potatoes) and others. Apart from the slightly runny Huevos, most of the small dishes were likeable, thanks to pleasing elements such as barbeque and garlic.

I liked the Paella Valenciana, especially the chao da bits. I tried the Fideua Negra (squid-ink pasta paella) for the first time and I foresee repeat orders of this dark briny fascination, especially since there are chao da bits too. Along the same shade, the Croquetas de Calamares (squid ink croquettes) were little orbs of delight.

I smiled at K with blackened teeth that would make a Macbeth witch glee with delight. Sorry dude, I’m not going to return you the ring. HAHA.

I will be the first one to admit I’m severely biased towards anything with carbs so I thought Don Quijote’s Pudin de Pan y Mantequilla (bread and butter pudding) was a lot better than Bodega's Crème Catalana.

Compared to Bodega Y Tapas, Don Quijote feels more like a TGI chain. However, the variety beats Bodega's and the food is good enough for a casual family night out.

What were you thinking? This blog died or something?

Thing is there has been a lot going on in my life. Wedding planning, optional occasional drama, upcoming renovations, potential hoohas with the contractor etc. I have spent much of my weekends looking at bathroom fixtures, driveway tiles, and I think we might look at kitchen cabinets this weekend.

I am definitely living through one of those memorable-lfe's-milestone period. Funny enough the more I have to share, the less I want to talk about it. Not that I have that many readers, but there is something weird about dishing out my life out there in the World Wide Web.

It was easier when I blogged about food. Insert pictures taken under bad lighting, largely unqualified reviews, but real personal comments. It was definitely a lot easier to blog about nice, tasty, juicy, meat-fall-the-bone food.

I’m not about to shortchange your time by posting a bunch of pictures and links to other people’s blogs. Maybe I will find the inspiration to blog properly again - and by properly, I mean, meaningfully - even if no one but my mum and the occasional accidental passer-by reads what I have to say.

Meanwhile, I came across this lovely blog while blog cruising. Enjoy.

Ha.

Think it would be too much to ask the contractor to add include a nursery. Hmm, shall stick with cot and baby high chair.

Have a lovely Wednesday, folks!
