freeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee.

the end of exams!
no more studying for me.. at least in singapore!

after my last paper, i walked over to raffles city's mph and treated myself to a new book.

i am seriously rationing the book and have restricted myself to the first two chapters. when mum and i were over at cho lan's (a seriously delightful book/ art store stocked with the most amazing unique nicknacks), i really had to keep myself from buying more books.. this is a really bad habit of mine as i tend to get more books than i can read and end up losing interest in those unread purchases..

i will be leaving in about six weeks.. six weeks to savour singapore's representative dishes like hokkien mee, char kway teow, pork porridge with egg please!, rojak, prawn mee and so many worth-mentionables. today i had hainanese chicken rice, as in the couldn't-be-more authentic hainanese chicken rice balls, which if not for channel newsasia, i would not have known that this dish is a dying trade.

as you can see to the left are the cutessential rice balls, a generous dish of chicken, briased pig intestines and stir-fried bean sprouts. honestly? i prefer normal chicken rice.. they are weee-bit oilier, thus providing the much-appreciated kick...

literally out of a musty-coloured steel tin, i reckon these walnut biscuits are a will-miss when i am away. i think you can only get these old- fashioned buttery biscuits from the more- modest areas of singapore. they are not easy to find but you could try areas where hdbs congregate to form a small town like in ang mo kio or toa payoh.
