Russell's first birthday party - Part 1

It was an amazing weekend.

Can we top it? I'm sure but memories of an awesome time spent with family and friends will remain with us for quite a while. And we aren't taking down the party decorations anytime soon.

We celebrated our munchkin's first birthday party and since the bub doesn't have any friends of his own, he had to make do with mama and papa's friends.

Don't you just love tassels? I love them enough to google 'DIY tassels' because I'm too cheap to ship them from Etsy. I'm not trying to be part of Martha Stewart's Special Projects team but it felt incredibly satisfying to have made them.

Just to add to the omm-bience, I order a bunch of balloons from Wow! Let's Party (link). Love love love this letter balloon! For my wake, I want my name spelt out in full. Not kidding.

There are many many balloon slash event companies in Singapore but I called up Wow and the guy who picked up the phone, Joe, was incredibly helpful and friendly so I didn't bother checking out the rates for other companies.

Even Toto got in on the action.

The party was loosely based on a superhero theme - just to emphasize the sort of people who make great parents.

We have so much to learn when it comes to parenting but the one thing we know is how to feed our guests.

Our resident grill master knocked out batches of Korean wings and Indonesian drumlets with the finesse of someone who would put the grill in his bedroom if he could.

Bottoms up, clean plates, people! More on the recipes soon.

Compared to our previous parties, we did a relatively modest line-up. Not wanting to kill ourselves cooking and ignoring our guests were things we definitely had in mind.

Russell's super Superman cake was from Bengawan Solo and I was amazed by the number of people who like such retro cream cakes.

Vanilla sponge layered with mangoes and covered in fresh cream. it might not have been a fancy schmancy cake but it stole our hearts in Henry-Cavill-style for a good 10 minutes.

Let's just say the bub wasn't pleased with our rendition of 'Happy Birthday'.

It's my party and I cry if I want to...

Our little man all ready for bed at 8:30pm.

This post has gone on long enough so I will quickly just say, I'm so happy to have been able to celebrate this special occasion with our family and close friends.
