Lobster Salad Maki Fried from Sushi Tei

Sushi Tei at Paragon would always have a special place in my heart. KW and I used to visit almost every Sunday, and we would plonk ourselves by the conveyor belt and enjoy a relaxing lunch, watching the world coloured plates go by. Now with 2 kids in tow, and with my parents, sisters and brother-in-law, our visits are a noisy affair but nonetheless, enjoyable and comforting.

One Sunday, I spotted something interesting from their 'Scrumptious Affair' special menu - Lobster Salad Maki Fried, which was created by the Supreme Chef at West Coast Plaza. I can almost picture the  grainy image of some Iron Chef from the original Japanese series. Quite frankly, it's really an example of Something New, Something Old and the chef didn't re-invent the wheel - or break it. Sorry, couldn't resist a Game of Thrones reference.

Lobster salad and cucumber wrapped into a sizeable maki, topped with flying fish roe and deep-fried. A deep fried maki (not forgetting a generous squirt of mentaiko mayo) would scare the socks of sushi purists but I could easily see this coming out of a food truck on Eat Street.

Let's be realistic, for $12.90, you won't be getting chunks of lobster tail but it sure made for a scrumptious affair.
