nice slash monaco.
we had breakfast at le pain quotient- a bakery/cafe which i wish i owned! here, the concept revolves around sharing the joy of good homemade bread. instead of individual tables for twos and fours, rustic communale tables fill the space and bottles of marmalade, olive oil and balsamic vinegar are laid out in the middle for everyone to share.
mum and I had the continental set and hazelnut-raisin flute. a fine bread basket and exceptional croissant.
more than sensational~
DIANA! i wish i could ship the entire deli back to singapore.. haha
tummies-filled, we headed over to cours selaya, the popular fleur marche. next to it, there was the fruit and vegetable marketplace where the handsome-looking seasonal fruits and vegetables challenged you to leave empty-handed. bakery stands stood conveniently nearby with their luscious foccacia bread and tempting pastries just a window display away.
from chez theresa's outdoor stand, we savoured a traditional nice snack- the nissa socca. the socca is a flimsy soft pancake made with chickpea, flour, olive oil cooked on a flat iron pan.. honestly, i thought it had a rather uninspiring taste.. haha..
in the afternoon, we took the train to the beautiful country of monaco. with its coiffed greenery and striking-red tourist trams, it felt pretty much like an adult disneyland.
monte carlo where bentleys, porsches and mercedes benzes defend the casino parking grounds and nearby driveways with fierce loyalty.
the air in monte carlo emanated a stealthy incense of trust funds, inheritance and self-made investment-banking dough. to me, the hotels and boutiques surrounding the area resemble wild mushrooms in a fairy tale forest- compelling but deadly and forbidden.
despite the over the top glamour and opulence.. there is something about monaco that makes it rather enchanting.
