Song Fa Bak Kut Teh, 11 New Bridge Rd

The meal didn't exactly kick off on a good note. It was hot and muggy; the tables were uncomfortably small; and the service made me go from "WTH" to "WTF" in minutes. To be frank, the food was good and on any given day, I would be more than happy with what we ordered. However, it wasn't good enough to make me put up with the discomfort and questionable service.

Braised Pig Trotters

Braised Pig Intestines

Braised Chicken Feet with Beancurd Skin

Stir-fried Kai Lan

Bak Kut Teh is kind of like Hainanese chicken rice for me. It goes from decent to very good across the board; you can't go very wrong but it's hard to reach epic levels of awesomeness. You definitely need some sides to cut the monotony of the dish; the side dishes we had were decent but nothing I would endorse.

Premium Pork Ribs

Regular Pork Ribs

While the ribs were sufficiently tender, I need more meat on my bones. I didn't think the premium pork ribs was worth the extra cost either.

Time to make a trip back to childhood favourite Rong Chen soon.

This place gave me a bad case of the runs for a week in August last year, cooking a bad kidney. Best avoided.
