Nice, France

back to nice.

two words: SUMMER SALE!

yes yes, the GFS (great french sale) starts today and after lunch, i fought my way through retail battlegrounds along avenue medecin, in an attempt to make up for my GSS loss. unlike the paltry singapore sale, the sale here literally starts at fifty percent off- in fact, twenty/ thirty percent discounts are considered an anomaly. but somehow, the struggle, not to mention the state of mess that most stores were in left me squeamish and grazing.. i am just not aggressive enough.. be aggressive.. be-be aggressive

before we headed up to england, we had to keep up with family tradition of having roast chicken in france. i have no idea how or when it began but whenever family visited paris, we would always buy a roast chicken off a makeshift rotisserie stand and tuck into it in the park or a nearby bench. as a result, mum and i decided to head on down to a nearby rotisserie for lunch.

my selection of roasted chicken leg, grated zucchini with tomato and mozerella.

mum's order of half a chicken, mixed salad and roasted potatoes

hey, for a seemingly touristy eatery, the roast meats were great! just imagine caramel-coloured crisp outering and tender insides where the meat just falls off the bone on a single prod. although less than appetizing-looking, my grated zucchini in all its huile d'olive and herb glory matched marvelously alongside the complimentary baguette.

mum and i even managed to catch the ballet Carmen performed by the opera nice at theatre le verdue. technique-wise i do not think there was much to scream about given that most dancers were not en point but the costumes were beautiful. floating organza dresses in strong harmoniously contrasting colours.. the entire stage setting was surely a feast for the eyes.
