i picked up a copy of newsweek that had a feature on the world’s most endangered destinations and the articles in it entertained me for a hour or so. i particuarly enjoyed Guests Welcome by peter mayle and Tourist can be a Force for Preservation by alex kerr.. maybe i was consoled by the articles since as a
but i picked up some really cool (for lack of a better word) books too. 'the secrets of mariko' by elisabeth bumiller which follows the real life of a japanese woman and her family and 'censoring history' by laura hein and mark selden which talks about the history we perceive to be true and how it has been shaped by political agendas. sounds interesting huh?
no fear if the internet is down.
bitch note: i am reading an essay written by a french groupmate for a project and i am absolutely bewilderedbefuddled here. what in the world is she trying to say? is it the grammer? the vocabulary? or the seemlessly never-ending sentences that sees a fullstop only at the end of five lines?
when i asked her to shorten her sentences, she comes along and tells me that "its the french way of writing" though i didn't have the heart to tell her that this is an ENGLISH paper, which will be read and graded by a DANISH teacher.. so it really helps if he UNDERSTANDS WHAT HECK YOU ARE WRITING.
oh lorrrrd, reading her essay is so painful.. i rather be strapped to a bed of pins, with mariah carey's greatest hits on repeat mode. at least death is near. it would be sure hell of a joke to survive the long harsh scandinavian winters and below-zero remperatures, only to fall prey to french-fied english report,
