The new William Hung.
Sometimes you wonder what goes on in the minds of people like Lucy Gao.
Case in point: Lucy Gao's Birthday Invitation.
Apparently it was an internal joke between Lucy and her friends, which got out of control. My deepest sympathies to this young lady who should legally change her name and throw out any dreams of pursuing a career with Citigroup.
This Lucy Gao is big stuff. She even made it to the columns of Financial Times and has t-shirts of her satire made. Team Lucy Gao, anyone?
But this really isn't all that funny because I actually know of people (or someone) who qualif(ies) as being an-lly ret-ntive and it is unbearingly stiffling to spend time with them (or him).
Why do they complicate the simplest of matters? Why do they feel the intrinsic need to break down sentences, over-rationalize and commit analytical debauchery?
A friend of mine* (who is way more successful than me in articulating his train of thoughts in a thoughtful manner) puts it simply,
"A certain beauty in life dies when you are able to clearly articulate your motivations for every action, or for your every decision to choose this class, this job, this friend, this hobby... etc."
And I agree with him*. It is not that I don't care. In fact, friends can vouch that I am a pretty good listener. For me, moments spent with such people happen in slow-motion. The over-sharing of details first disassociates me from the conversation. It then proceeds to create a momentary space of disenchantment, which is slowly but gradually infiltrated with disinterest.
Now how's that for psychoanalyzing? Haha
By the way, I love the t-shirt which says, "When asked "how can I help you Sir/Madame?", you reply "I am here for Lucy's Birthday Party at the Rivoli Bar"
*Hello, Mr Levis Boxer Shorts designer, I am unsure if you would like me to link you (for privacy's sake) because you could be one of those who crave for the anonymousness and shy away from the blinding paparazzi lights.. Haha. Drop me a line if you don't mind.
