Hongkong Street Restaurant

home coming.

i know of people who would give up a limb for laksa.. but i am not one of them. haha. in terms of guilty pleasure, i am more into the whole fried carrot cake, penange fried kway teow scene but i decided nonethless to have laksa for lunch at smu's killiney kopitiam, as part of my 'eat local' campaign.

thick beehoon, weird tasting fish cake slices, two pathetic tau poks and some bean sprouts- it really wasn't mind blowing -or anything close to that. but then again, it would have taken one helluva laksa to really make an impact on me and i got the coconutty-gravy fix that i needed. haha...

anyway yang returned home from durham and since she got to pick any place to satisfy that rich insatiable yearning for local food, we headed over to hongkong street restaurant at upper thomson where she ordered her familar favourites

beancurd on hot plate- which is egg, minced pork, sliced egg beancurd served on a menancingly- sizzling hot plate. sidetrack: this is the perfect dish used to shush bratty kids up at the dinner table since noone (at least in my tiny social circle) seems to be able to resist a dollap of brown meaty sauce over a bowl of fragrant white rice.

prawn paste chioken- hongkong street's prawn paste chicken tastes rather different from all the other restaurants.. less prawny-flavoured but served with lime and a dish of chili sauce for that lip-smacking desire..

i personally like this sliced fish beehoon.. milkily- so and immensely delicious, a trip to hongkong street is never complete without at least two servings of this delectable dish

dad order this chicken and had a lion's-portion of it... did not sit well with me for i like my food 'clear cut.' if its meant to be a soupish gravish dish, so be it.. but if it is meant to be dry and crisp- STAY THAT WAY!
