The bub's first trip to PS Cafe Dempsey

Although I am the least spontaneous person I known, I do love an impromptu tea date. My younger sister, keen to spend some time with Russell without the prying arms of his grandmothers, volunteered to pick us up for an afternoon out at PS Cafe Dempsey - a place which I find incredibly hard to say "no" to.

You saw this coming, didn't you? You knew it would be a matter of time before I introduced Russell to the land of towering cakes, over the top floral arrangements and too-cool-for-My-First-Skool PS Cafe.

All dressed up and looking the part of a balding, paunchy middle-aged golfer.

Waiting patiently for yiyi to come pick us up.

The bub was surprisingly well-behaved. Sure, he was cranky in the beginning and didn't want to sit in his stroller but he slept like a baby in my arms (whatddityaknow) throughout the rest of our stay there.

My sister was adamant about ordering the Southern Chocolate Pecan Pie. Needless to say, when there is chocolate and pecan (or just about any other kind of nut), I ate more than my fair share of that scrumptous sticky gooey mess - even with one arm short.

Just when I thought I had tried all the cakes on display, the Cherry Teacake flashes its old world charm on me. This was a lovely lighter-than-pound but denser-than-sponge-cake lined with dark chocolate and dotted with tart cherries; a scoop of plain of' vanilla sweetened the deal. I must admit I'm pretty good at sussing out marketing exploits but there is something about PS Cafe that makes me fork out double digits for a slice of cake. #Sucker

Incidentally, this is also PS Cafe's contribution to Sweet Charity Month (http://www.sweetcharitymonth.com/).

Based on many many past experiences, I have learnt to tone down my expectations for the savories at ps cafe. However, the Georgia Reuben Sandwich is an exception to this rule. I absolutely loved everything about this sandwich! The sourish sauerkraut cuts through the Swiss cheese and tender pastrami yet binds everything together like a cupid's arrow. Sandwiched between crusty (mind your mouth roof) multigrain and rye bread, this is a must-order-again dish.

Looking forward to more cake dates with the bub :)

Charming the pants off my cousin...
