Crystal Jade Golden Palace, Paragon

I have been averaging one dim sum meal a week and am waiting for the Law of Diminishing Returns to set in. Sometimes I feel I am one har gow away from overdoing this craving of mine; yet before that happens, I am super excited about more places to satisfy this heartfelt need of mine.

As Imperial Treasure Super Peking Duck has always been one of our go-to places for dim sum, I never knew what lay on the opposite side across the vast abundance of kids' branded apparel and toy shops - Crystal Jade Golden Palace Restaurant. Apologies for being so melodramatic, I have been watching too much History Channel.

Taking a break from our usual haunt, Christmas Day lunch with my family was spent at Crystal Jade Golden Palace and I am happy to report, it's a worthy alternative. As we were led into the restaurant, I was pleasantly surprised by the modern budoir set-up that lay beyond the dark alleyway; and before I forget, it is hard to nitpick at the quick and efficient service.

Siew Mai . Century Egg and Lean Meat Porridge. Frog Leg Porridge.
Steamed Rice Roll with American Sliced Beef . Barbecued Pork Pastry .
Steamed Chicken Feet . Har Gow

Steamed Pork Ribs with Black Bean Sauce . Sauteed Prawns with Salted Egg .
Beancurd Skin Roll . XO Fried Carrot Cake

Peking Duck . Deep Fried Spring Roll with Fresh Prawn & Mango .
Steamed Custard Bun with Salted Egg Yolk . Baked Rice with Seafood

The curry-based baked rice with seafood was simply not my cup of kung fu tea and the stir-fried carrot cake was too mushy. Other than those two items, the rest of the dishes were very very good - noticed even by my parents and elder sister who had just returned from dim-sum-mecca Hong Kong.

I won't bore you with any juicy-melt-in-your-mouth-better-than-sex descriptions, but I must say, the Sauteed Prawns with Salted Egg was sheer decadence and the Steamed Custard Bun with Salted Egg Yolk would easily be a top three contender if you are keeping track.

As you can tell, the pictures get progressively (and embarrassingly) poorer as the meal went on as I'm not the type who would sacrifice candy for eye candy. On top of Christmas, it was a double blessing as we celebrated the parents' wedding anniversary!

Hope you are still soaking in the festive spirit =)
